Back in the Saddle

I need to apologize to my faithful readers for the recent inactivity on my blog these past few weeks. But I have a really good excuse.

I went down with a pretty bad back injury last week that had me on my back heavily medicated for about 4 days. I am still recovering as we speak, but I should be back to normal here real soon.

The circumstances surrounding the back injury are quite humorous now that the excruciating pain has subsided. I went on a church retreat with CLC to Donner Lake. I had the opportunity to do a little wakeboarding. Fortunately, I had still retained my wakeboarding skills even though I hadn’t been in a couple years. Unfortunately, I am not in the same shape I used to be, and subsequently managed to pull a muscle in my back.

The one good thing that resulted was a weak attempt at some facial hair. This is a make or break week for the facial hair, as I introduce it into the different circles of my life. We will see what happens.

I know, a pulled make muscle doesn’t sound very bad, but trust me, the pain is worse than anything I have ever experienced in my life.

Lucky for me, the pain didn’t set in till nearly two days after I went wakeboarding, so I was still able to enjoy the retreat.

We had an opportunity to gather around during the retreat for some time to dive into the word. The conversation that resulted was largely focused on refocusing on the importance of creating space in our days and allowing God to be apart of everything we do. It was cool cause it kind of tied into my Brother Lawrence post, and I got the opportunity to share a little bit about it during this time. In addition we talked about how as Christ Followers, we sometimes get caught up in trying to figure out what God is calling us to do in our lives, and often times we are looking for something big and extravagant. The reality is that often times God does call us to DO something, big or small, but all of us as Christ Followers are called to BE. As Christ Followers we are all called to the incarnation of Christ, no matter what we happen to be doing. That really spoke to me.

I will be heading to Atlanta these next couple days for some family time. I am really looking forward to it. I will do my best to fit some blogging in and get back into the blogging saddle.

There are around 22 different versions of “black google” online. The best one I’ve found is www.cleanblack.com. Cleanblack is the only version that allows you to change the text colors of the google search results. Try it yourself by going to www.cleanblack.com/theme/

Bummer about the back! I think a lot of people kind of "waste" time by trying to figure out what God is calling them to do/be. Yes, in reality, we are called to be faithful in ALL things, no matter how small the task may be! BUT, do you like biscuits and gravy in addition to the eggs benedict???

Yeah, I've thought about this a bit too...sometimes I think we can easily pass up all the stuff God wants us to be doing in our every day lives if we're spending all of our time and energy seeking some big calling. I mean, just living for Jesus is a pretty big calling in and of itself, and no small thing that should be smotherd by our concerns/desire to be doing something "bigger." In fact, I think we can reach a pretty selfish place if we're looking too much for what "we should be doing" and completely lose focus on what we actually could be doing for those around us on a daily basis.
