Leadership Promises

On my desk at work sits a book I have been using for my daily devotionals. I actually have two books I do for Daily Devotionals. Leadership Promises and Words of Wisdom by Rev Run.

There was a good entry in Leadership Promises, that talked about valuing people. They laid down three laws to follow as a leader:

1. Value People
2. Praise Effort
3. Reward Performance

I liked how the number one thing to do was value people. Often times in leadership roles, the focus is on valuing people based on their performance. However, it is important to see people as inherently valuable, regardless of performance.

I'm totally buying what this guy is selling. I am going to work on valuing people because they are valuable. I trust effort and performance will follow suit, at which time we can praise and reward. Good stuff.
